A BIT ABOUT WHO WE ARE
Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club has been training scholar athletes and fielding crews to compete and beat Cambridge at the Lightweight Boat Races year on year since 1975. Since its founding, the Club has developed into one of the premier lightweight rowing programmes in the country, consistently ranking in the top four university crews in the UK at BUCS and indeed in Europe at the European University Games. In 2018, the club won a silver in the Championship lightweight 8+ and a bronze in the Championship lightweight 4- categories.
We often take on rowers who have just started at University and never rowed before. In this way, we are aiming to try and increase access to a great sport that is often seen as elitist and breaking down those barriers so anyone can take part as long as they are skilled and work hard. In our 2018 EUSA campaign, we hope to cement ourselves as one of the top crews in Europe.
Sam joined OULRC as Head Coach in the Summer of 2016. He has enjoyed successes coaching junior rowing at an international level for Great Britain and South Africa. Now at Oxford he has been integral to the recent success of the club in the past couple of years and is set on producing a boat race winning crew for 2019.
