Wedau International Regatta 2008
From the 16th-18th May, two OULRC Blue Boat rowers, Simon Janes (D.Phil Candidate Transplant Immunology) and Will Canestaro (M.Sc Candidate Medical Anthropology) joined several OUBC squad members to compete in the Wedau International Regatta in Duisburg Germany.
As the main event of the Regatta the Oxford crew went head to head against a German Composite eight of Olympic rowers. Racing over 500 meters the Oxford team got out to an early lead of 7 seats. This lead was eaten away by the German team who pressed hard to move ahead to a 7 seat margin. With a last minute push which saw the rate climb to 50 spm the Oxford team was able to move back to within 5 seats however the push may have been too late as the German team ultimately took the prize.
The Germans were exceptional hosts and allowed the Oxford team another chance with a boat race on the medal dock, which the Oxford team won by a one and half cup margin.
