About the Club
OULRC is the lightweight rowing program at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1975, the Club represents the University each year in the Lightweight Varisty Boat Race, on the prestigious rowing venue of Henley-on-Thames, widely regarded as rowing's spiritual home. The club also races in several national and international races besides the Boat Race each year.
The squad is recruited and developed from the undergraduate and graduate bodies at the University, spanning the breadth of rowing experience, courses and colleges. All members balance the commitments of training with the academic pressure of being enrolled on full time courses.
The Club's dedication and standards are such that it has held the Boat Race trophy for 7 of the last 8 years.
Members of OULRC have gone on to be selected for national teams, most recently Paul Mattick (Nephthys 2003) who won gold in the GB Men's Lightweight Coxless Four at the World Championships in Munich in 2007.
We are interested in hearing from anyone who is thinking of coming to Oxford, has rowed before, is under 85kg, and wants to train at the highest level. Information for potential triallists is found here.
Lightweight Rowing
In order to be able to compete on the day, all mens lightweight crews must weigh in at an average of 70kg four hours prior to racing. There is an individual maximum imposed on rowers of 72.5kg. Coxwains have a specified minimum weight of 55kg.
